A guide on how to access and utilise UL Library Systems, Applications and electronic resources

Usage of Library eResources

Downloading and printing online resources, and photocopying print material, is limited by Copyright Laws and publisher licenses and restrictions.
Please familiarise yourself and abide to our eResources Access Policy outlined below.

 

Provision of Databases/ E-Resources:

Databases and Electronic journals are provided for academic research to current registered students (part-time and Full time) staff, (Academic and Support), Exchange Programme Students, Visiting Professionals and Researchers of the University of Limpopo.

Copyright:

  • The use of each online databases or e-resources is governed by copyright law and by the terms of the license agreement between the university, Library and the publishers.
  • The Library will comply with the existing copyright laws. The Library will also promote copyright compliance among its users and staff.
  • Downloading entire collections of data or entire issues of a journal or an electronic book is a violation of copyright law and a violation of University of Limpopo library license terms with the publishers.

Permitted Usage:

  • Searching the content of the online databases such as doing a quick search, viewing and browsing tables of contents, full-text articles, bibliographic information and data Downloading, saving and printing limited articles is permitted for personal and academic use only.
  • Viewing, downloading, copying, printing and saving individual articles.
  • Using e-resources for scholarly, educational or scientific research, teaching, private study and clinical purposes
  • Sending a copy of an article to another authorised user

 

NB. Publishers monitor license agreements compliance. Contradiction of license agreement by users may result in legal action and the publishers will suspend the University’s Electronic Resources Access without warning. 

Prohibited Usage:

  • Commercial use such as reselling and redistributing the contents from databases/ electronic resources.
  • Any systematic or substantial reproduction of the information provided in the database or electronic journal or creation of imitative works
  • Systematic, bulk or automatic downloading from the databases/ e-resources
  • Systematic downloading or printing of entire journal issues or volumes, or large portions of other e-resources
  • Any distribution of the information contents of the databases, or material downloaded from the databases/ e-resources to non- authorized users.
  • Disseminating or making online content available to unauthorised users
  • Facilitating use or access by non- authorized users, including sharing your allocated off- campus password or other login information with anyone who is not registered with the university.

Security:

All electronic resources will connect and operate properly in conjunction with the Libraries and the campus software programmes.

Evaluation:

Electronic resources will be reviewed periodically to assess their continuing value. Usage statistics will also be recorded yearly for comparison.

Marketing:

To maximise the usage, the library will continuously market e-resources subscribed to.

Training:

Training of the databases will only be provided to the current registered students of the University of Limpopo and the TGLS (EduPark).
